Styrene

Styrene is a flexible plastic that can be moulded without breaking, but does not retain its shape on its own. Styrene has a low melting point, which means that we do not recommend using it for projects involving small and detailed projects.

Useful to know

Styrene is a flexible plastic that can be moulded without breaking, but does not retain its shape on its own. Styrene has a low melting point, which means that we do not recommend using it for projects involving small details.

Styrene is usually used for making models, prototypes and signs.

Styrene has a shiny side and a slightly matt side. As a rule, we usually cut the matt side.

Styrene is not usually suitable for visually aesthetic tasks, but some light vector engraving can be performed. However, we do not recommend raster engraving or thick vector engraving in 0.5 mm, as this is almost equal to cutting.

Vector and raster engraving

Styrene can be both vector and raster engraved. The material gains an uneven, glossy surface in areas where it is raster engraved. Due to its low melting point, the design should not be too detailed in thickly engraved areas.

However, we do not recommend raster engraving or thick vector engraving in 0.5 mm, as this is almost equal to cutting.

Avoiding burn marks

As standard delivery, the styrene has protective film on the front and back.

Laser cutting

Top – No burn marks, the material is cut with protective film as standard delivery. Slightly “blurry” track along the scoring edge.

Edge –  No burn marks. The edges look “raw” and slightly glossy after cutting. The inside of sharp corners turns a darker colour.

Back – No burn marks. Usually cut with a layer of film. Remember to remove this when you receive your cutting.

Double-sided adhesive tape can be added when you place your order.
