Useful to know
Wooden cardboard is often used for making models and elevation models. It is also a popular choice for business cards, invitations etc.
Visible fibres are apparent.
Vector and raster engraving
Both vector and raster engraving are possible. The material gains a darker colour in the engraved areas. The thicker the engraving, the darker the colour.
Avoiding burn marks
At the time of your order, you can choose to add protective film to avoid the worst marks caused by smoke damage and the cutting process. However, applying a protective film is not possible when raster engraving.
Please be aware that the adhesive from the film may cause the fibres to lift when you peel it off.
Laser cutting
Top – A slight darkening of the material will appear along the score line. At the time of your order, you can choose to add a protective film to avoid the worst burn marks. Please be aware that the adhesive from the film may cause the fibres to lift when peeling it off because of the rough surface.
Edges – The edges look clean when used with the thinnest examples. At a thickness of 3mm, the edges look brown and can rub off.
Bottom – There will be a certain amount of smoke and marking along the score line, depending on the surface on which the material is cut. Many people who are making a model choose to turn the back side of the material inwards, so these marks are not visible.
Alternatively, at the time of your order you can choose to add a protective film to avoid the worst burn marks. However, please be aware that the adhesive from the film may cause the fibres to lift when peeling it off because of the rough surface. You can also choose to add a double-sided adhesive tape, enabling you to put your design up on a wall without the use of any nails and screws.
Finishing treatments
It is possible to decorate wooden cardboard with magic markers, pens and suchlike. It is a good idea to conduct a test before you initiate a major project.
